BNP’s ‘Uncle Tom’ Hindu leader threatens to starve Indian doctors and consign them to work as hawkers

Anti-India bluster and rhetoric is a familiar phenomenon in Bangladesh’s ‘Momin’ landscape , particularly when non-Awami Leaguers call the shots in the country. This now seems to have worsened in the current anarchy under the misrule of the illegitimate interim government since August 5 this year. Nothing illustrates the point better than the recent haughty outburst of Gayeshwar Roy, an ‘Uncle Tom’ Hindu leader of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Speaking to media persons yesterday Gayeshwar has threatened to starve Indian doctors and medical services to death , presumably implying that Bangladeshi patients will not flock to Calcutta and other Indian metropolis seeking paid medical services. Going a step further in his empty rhetorical flourish Gayeshwar has predicted that he/ Bangladeshis will reduce Indian medicos to working as hawkers.
Gayeshwar may be in need of reinforcing his ‘more loyal than king’ status but his verbal diarrhea has provoked laughter as usual. True, the Bangladeshis coming to India on medical visa cough up money for the Indian doctors and private nursing homes and clinics but the traffic is two-way as they are also in need of Indian medical service which certainly is far better than what is available in their ‘Momin’ country. Moreover, Gayeshwar has not answered what the alternative destination of Bangladeshi patients will be, in case they choose to avoid visiting India. Pakistan, Afghanisthan, Nepal, Bhutan or China ? What will be the cost of journey or the quality of treatment they look for ? The government of India has not yet done away with medical visa and, apart from that, how Gayeshwar’s dreamland will make ends meet by doing away with other imports of commodities and services from the ‘Darul Harav’ India ? Time by tradition is a great healer and Gayeshwar is also likely to be cured of his rhetorical ailments with the passage of time .
