Current year’s 4th ‘Lok Adalat’ to sit in daylong session on November 14 for quick disposal of cases free of cost

The current year’s 4th statewide ‘Lok Adalat’ will sit in session on December 14, Saturday, for quick disposal of as many as 18,054 cases . A press note issued by Ms J.Datta Chowdhury, Member-Secretary of the Tripura State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA), said that the ‘Lok Adalat’ will sit in session not only in the high court of Tripura but also in all the district and sub-divisional courts on the appointed day.

Giving details of the nature of cases to be taken up by the Lok Adalats the press note said that altogether 332 cases of motor accident compensation cases, 3557 cases of dispute over repayment of bank loans, 13,130 cases of negotiable minor criminal cases, 127 cases of marital disputes, 186 cheque bounce cases, 44 cases of consumer right disputes , 3 cases related to service matters and 13 civil cases will be taken up in the ‘Lok Adalats’ across the state.

A bench of the high court of Tripura will also be in session and in that bench 25 cases will come up for hearing while in Agartala court compound a maximum of ten benches will be in session. The press note issued by Ms J.Datta Chowdhury said that the plaintiffs and defendants in all these cases have already been served notices. Many plaintiffs and defendants have been noticed and visiting the district and subdivisional legal aid service offices since December 9 to take advantage of the benefits of pre-conciliation settlement. A large number of ‘Adhikar Mitras’ or para-legal volunteers will help the people who will come to the ‘Lok Adalats’ in connection with cases. The Member-Secretary of the TSLSA Ms Jhuma Datta Chowdhury has appealed to all concerned to take the benefit of having pending cases settled through ‘Lok Adalat’ session on December 14 free of legal cost .
