The Tripura Cricket Association (TCA), under the leadership of President Tapan Lodh and Secretary Subrata Dey, has urged the Director General of Police (DGP) to expedite the investigation into a multi-crore corruption case involving the installation of high-mast floodlights at Agartala's MBB Stadium. Representatives from various affiliated clubs also joined the delegation in making the appeal on Monday.

Expressing concern over delays in the investigation, TCA Secretary Subrata Dey stated, “We are deeply worried about the slow progress. On August 23, the High Court directed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the matter. The SIT has completed its probe and submitted its report to the Crime Branch. However, no action has been taken against those named in the report or the subsequent FIR.”

Dey added that the DGP sought clarifications on certain aspects of the case during the meeting, which the delegation provided. He expressed hope that the discussion would lead to tangible progress. Highlighting the allegations, TCA member Majumder revealed that the previous committee bypassed the governing council to allocate funds for the floodlight project. The estimated cost of ?10.5 crore ballooned to over ?24 crore, with legal norms and regulations reportedly flouted to benefit the private agency awarded the contract.

President Tapan Lodh emphasized the seriousness of the allegations and stressed the need for swift action. “We reminded the DGP about the case and requested appropriate measures given the gravity of the corruption charges,” Lodh said. He also noted that the police chief assured them that steps were being considered against the accused individuals.
