In an unseemly incident clearly showing growing disrespect for media in segments of society, a gang of miscreants late last night assaulted and injured a TV channel photographer Sujit Acharjee (32) at Malaynagar area. Acharjee who works for the local cable TV channel ‘Times-24’ had gone to cover in detail the function organised by the ‘Sat Sanga’ Ashram to observe the 137th birth anniversary of Thakur Anukul Chandra, founder-president of ‘Sat Sanga’.
It was around 1-30 AM last night that Sujit Acharjee was returning to his office at Agartala by his motor-bike. A gang of miscreants in drunken condition on the wayside stopped his motor bike and picked a quarrel with him demanding money. As Sujit Acharjee refused to pay any money he was set upon by the miscreants who beat up him severely by hitting him hard on the back and head. With his injuries Sujit managed somehow to reach the IGM hospital and undergo treatment with bandages and was prescribed medicines for healing of his injury.
Later Sujit , accompanied by his friends , filed a complaint with the Amtoli police station . Acting fast for a change a team from Amtoli police station arrested six culprits involved in the attack on Sujit Acharjee. Sources from Amtoli police station said that they will be produced in court today and remand would be sought for interrogation and then charge-sheet will be filed.
