Tripura Pradesh Congress President Asish Kumar Saha on Tuesday alleged that the just concluded festive season throughout the month of October was marred by incidents of violence, murders, and atrocities on women. Speaking to the media persons during the Sanhati Padayatra, Saha said, “October was the month of festivities. But, even in that month, six murders and seven incidents of crime against women had been reported from various parts of the state.
It speaks volumes of the law and order situation of the state and how this government has failed to ensure the safety and security of people. The law-abiding citizens of the state are frightened to see the sharp spike in criminal activities. They are feeling threatened.” Accusing the ruling party of drawing a line of mistrust between religious minorities and the majority Hindus, Saha said, “Rule of law is absent from the state. The incidents of communal flare-ups reported in the last three months are indicative of a sinister design aimed at destroying the secular social fabric of society.
We condemn these incidents and, through our rallies in all assembly constituencies, try to send a loud and clear message of unity and social cohesiveness.” Launching a scathing attack on Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, the Congress president said, “We are organising the Sanhati Padayatra in 8-Bardowali assembly constituency today. Despite being the home constituency of Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, the rule of law is nowhere to be found here.
The factionalism within the ruling party is taking a toll on the peaceful atmosphere of the area. Ransacking, targeted attacks, and indulgence of cut-money mafia are on the rise.” It should be noted here that Congress has started its campaign of Sanhati Padayatra on October 31—the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi—and it will continue till November 19—the birth anniversary of the high decorated leader of the Congress party.
