The enforcement authorities locked two wholesale shops and served notice to two others for stocking and selling of unauthorized edible oils which include oils imported from Bangladesh. The enforcement teams detected two go-downs where large quantities of ‘tir’ brand oil from Bangladesh were stored but the owners could not show any document to prove how these goods were imported from Bangladesh. They could not show any cash memo for selling these goods raising suspicion of major irregularities.

The two stores where ‘tir’ brand oils were stored were owned by Sougata Pal and Ranjit Malla. It is learnt that the enforcement team detected two more go downs which the managers of the owners could not open. The team also raided one retail outlet where ‘Rani’ brand oils were selling in excessively high rate.

The enforcement team was led by DCM B Debbarma and the Controller of Food Pradip Kumar Bhowmik and was comprised of officials from the food department and the Department of Legal Metrology.
