Old and infirm father on the road ,doctors son and daughter in law starve him and make no arrangement for treatment

We have it on the authority of philosophical theory that the inhabitants of the world, specially men and women, grow as they evolve along with the external world through a process of conflict in the realm of ideas, thoughts , values. In the process it is believed that the stronger and better ideas, thoughts and values triumph over the older ones which give way to the new as part of dialectics.

But is it always true, particularly in the realm of social and familial values ? It does not seem so from the ugly turn that retired government employee Sampad Kumar Roy’s life has taken. A resident of the capital’s Banerjee Para area, Sampad Kumar Roy (69) is now consigned to the road near his house , having no means of food and place for rest in the house that he had built. With a good deal of effort and having virtually exhausted his resources widowed Sampad Kumar Roy had made his son Prasenjit a doctor and had him married to Brittika Roy, another qualified doctor.

But over the past few years old and infirm Sampad has been subjected to untold privation and misery by his son and daughter in law who refuse to provide food to him or take care of his old age ailments , despite being doctors themselves. Whenever he raised a question over his food and need for medicine and treatment both his son and daughter in law scolded him , threatening him with ouster from his own house. Things had reached a flash point on last Thursday when Sampad Roy had been confined to a narrow and unhealthy room by his son and daughter in law behind grills .

Fed up with his own fate Sampad Roy managed to wriggle out of captivity and sat beside the road in his area of habitation on a torn piece of sack. Asked what had happened to him by neighbours a shattered Sampad Roy related to them his tale of woes but there was no respite till nightfall yesterday. The people of the area have decided to bring the condition of Sampad Roy to the notice of the government.
