Fight between ‘Mandal’ president and general secretary spark furore in the entire Town Bardowali constituency

The growing inner contradictions of the BJP mainly over sharing of spoils and rivalry over leadership have started exposing the soft under belly of the ruling party in Tripura. This unhealthy trend came to the fore in front of the Rabindra Shata Varshiki Bhawan on last Saturday night on the occasion of a party over successful conclusion of the ‘Kali Puja’ and ‘Diwali’ festival in the area, organised by the Town Bardowali ‘Mandal’.

Sources aware of the unseemly incident said that the Bardowali ‘Mandal’ president Sanjay Saha and the general secretary Shyamal Kumar Deb alias ‘Samu’ had an uneasy relationship because of suspicion in the mind of the president and his followers that the latter was trying to unseat Sanjay Saha from his position and so that he himself could become the president. On Saturday night around 9-00 PM when the party was on a quarrel and heated exchange broke out between Sanjay Saha and Shyamal Deb and their respective followers. Within minutes this degenerated into a scuffle and blows were exchanged. At the summon of Sanjay Saha the activists of the ‘Yuba Morcha’ branch of Town Bardowali rushed to the spot and gave a sound thrashing to Shyamal Deb alias ‘Samu’. The matter ended after the beating and the festive party dispersed with a bitter taste.

But this has left a bitter trail in the minds of BJP workers and supporters in the entire Town Bardowali constituency. Sources said that conflict over commission for contract work, transaction over land and many other sources of slush money had embittered relation between the ‘Mandal’ president and the general secretary . To worsen matters, recently reports circulated that Shyamal Kumar Deb had been trying to grab the post of ‘Mandal’ president at the expense of Sanjay Saha and this turned out to be the last straw which Sanjay and his followers could not stomach this . This finally resulted in the clash on Saturday night but sources said that the BJP state president and MP Rajeev Bhattacharjee has been apprised of this and will speak to the rival parties for resolving the running feud.
