A massive rally of Hindus organised under the banner of ‘Hindu Buddhist and Christian Aikya Parishad’ a platform for minorities in troubletorn Bangladesh, came off yesterday in the central ‘Shahid Minar’ of Dhaka, capital of the country. Altogether forty minority organizations affiliated with Parishad had taken part in the massive procession and rally . The demands raised by the participants included acceptance of eight point charter raised by minorities for safe and peaceful existence and withdrawal of cooked-up cases against the Parishad chief advocate Rana Dasgupta and Swami Chinmay Krishna Brahmachari of ISKCON by the interim government.
Sources from Bangladesh said that the meeting had begun with blowing of conch shell and singing of the national anthem. The speaker after speaker in the meeting emphasized the fact that Bangladesh is their mnotherland and they are keen to live in the country in full safety. They also highlighted the intensification of the oppression and attacks on minorities all over the country following the change of government and demanded that their eight point charter of demands be fulfilled by the interim government so that they can live peacefully and in harmony with all in the country. The meeting was addressed by the leading figures of the Parishad including Basudeb Dhar, Bhikshu Sunanda Barua, Hemanta Koraia and ISKCON general secretary Charu Chandra Brahmachari. After the meeting a huge procession moved through the busy city thoroughfares of Dhaka.
Significantly , none of the Islamic and ‘Godi’ mainstream media of Bangladesh highlighted the news except some in foot-notes. The tainted media in Bangladesh has yet again proved its dubious and pro-Islamic character by blacking out news about the minorities of the country and it is only because of reportage from correspondents of newspapers from Tripura and partly Assam that the news has come out.
