Show cause notices were served to five Ration Shops in Belonia after discrepancies were found in their stock position. Officials said there was a shortage of 2000 kg of rice in one of the shops while there were also discrepancies in other shops. The discrepancies were detected during a surprise visit to the shops by a team of officials led by Additional Sub-divisional Magistrate Asish Biswas and Sub-divisional Controller Saswati Biswas.
Meanwhile, allegations are coming about the quality of flour being distributed through the ration shops. Many consumers have alleged that the flour taken from the ration shops has been badly tested, and many are trying to return it. Ration Shop dealers are also on the receiving end of the trouble. They also informed the authorities about the outcome and demanded compensation.
Saswati Biswas, the Sub-divisional Controller, has admitted the fact and said they have already informed the higher authorities about the problem and are waiting for a decision. Additional SDM Asish Biswas said the flour was collected from a mill located in the Champamura area through tender. Now, they are to investigate what has happened.
