A middle-aged man who was thrashed by an irate mob of locals for a murder attempt on a businessman succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday at GB Pant hospital, Agartala. 34-year-old Rahul Krishna Roy was battling for life in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital since October 15 last. Hari Shankar Saha, the businessman whom he stabbed mercilessly also died a few days back at the same hospital. Speaking on the issue, Officer-in-Charge West Agartala Police Station Paritosh Das said, “Unfortunately, both the assailant and the victim passed away. Hari Shankar Saha lost his life a few days back and in the same week, his assailant also lost his life.” On being asked about his death, Das said, “The assailant went to the shop of Saha and started stabbing him indiscriminately at the Melarmath area. When the pedestrians noticed the matter, they stopped him and dragged him out of the shop. He was assaulted by an enraged group of people. He suffered multiple injuries on different parts of his body. He was rushed to GB Pant hospital for treatment where he breathed his last on Wednesday.” Sources close to the family of Rahul Roy said he had lent some money to the late businessman Hari Shankar Saha’s son. But the money was never repaid. On multiple occasions, the assailant humbly asked for the money but the deceased businessman and his son never took his genuine appeals seriously. The monetary dispute between two people ultimately met a tragic end.
