Several shops gutted in fire, two injured

Two persons suffered severe burn injuries after fire broke out in a shop beside the Kathalia by-pass road today. The owner of the shop Biplab Ghosh narrowly escaped the massive fire as he was outside the shop. The injured persons are identified as Asish Das, an auto driver and Biplab Ghosh’s wife Manti Ghosh. They had been rushed to GB pant hospital for advanced treatment. The fire completely destroyed a saloon and then engulfed another shop. Fire-fighters rushed to the spot with a fire engine and brought the fire under control within a short period.

According to reports, Biplab Ghosh used to sell petrol illegally in the Kathalia motor stand area. Eyewitness accounts suggested that petrol drums came in contact with a candle which led to the fire. The auto-driver was fetching fuel from Biplab’s shop when the incident occurred.
