Even though the ruling BJP has sounded a note of warning against the rioters in Kadamtala, the leaders in opposition have blamed the provocative activities of the ruling party and failure of the administration for the communal clashes in Kadamtala area under Dharma Nagar subdivision. Speaking to media persons senior Congress leader and MLA Sudip Roybarman said that the ruling party had been conspiring for a long time to engineer riots in the state that was witnessed in Gandacherra and then in Kaitarbari area under Ranir Bazar police station. “What has happened in Kadamtala on the issue of extortion in the name of ‘Durga Puja’ is very unfortunate and sad because ‘Durga Puja’ is universally popular and acceptable festival in which people from all sections take part; what happened in Kadamtala had never been seen earlier; it is the BJP which deliberately engineered this clash by bringing people from Dharma Nagar” said Sudip. He also blamed the police inaction for the clash and destruction of property , saying ever since the BJP came to power in 2018 the police has been in the habit of kowtowing to the wishes of the leaders of the ruling party. “ All the heinous activities in Kadamtala took place in front of on-duty police personnel; what can be more shameful” Sudip asked. He held the chief minister who also holds the home portfolio responsible for the condemnable chain of events in Kadamtala.

The CPI (M) state secretary Jiten Chowdhury also spoke in similar lines though he demanded immediate restoration of peace and normalcy. He deplored the riotous situation in Kadamtala and held the state police and the government responsible for this . “Beginning with what happened in Gandacherra the situation in the state has gone from bad to worse ; the Kadamtala incident has also exposed the chinks in the law and order machinery in the state” said Jiten. He also wondered how the workers and supporters of his own party were disregarding the appeal and directives of the chief minister. “We know the BJP believes in and practices the political of polarization but they should realize that in a state like Tripura this dangerous politics will only bring disaster; now the situation demands that a strong initiative be taken to restore normalcy in the state and fraternal relations among all sections of people” said Jiten.
