Tripura Congress MLA and CWC invitee member Sudip Roy Barman on Monday hit out at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and alleged that the ruling party was trying to divide the society in religious lines. “Ever since the BJP assumed power for the second time in 2023, the ruling party has been trying to create conflict among the communities living peacefully. The first attempt was made at Gandatwisa, where tribal and non-tribal people had been pitted against each other. The second attempt was made at Mandai’s Durganagar area where Hindus and Muslims had been instigated against each other. The BJP is doing everything when they realized that the Hindutva agenda is not paying off,” the senior Congress leader told media persons. Slamming the police department for playing the role of silent spectator, Barman said, “There was a fierce confrontation between the people of Hindus and Muslims. The RSS and BJP goons played an active role aggravating the situation. One person unfortunately lost his live in police firing and many shops had been looted. In the morning as well, similarly attacks were carried out on business establishments belonging to a particular community. Whenever these things were happening, police was present at the sight and they were mere silent bystanders.” He also criticized the Chief Minister for being ignorant to all these issues. “He (The Chief Minister) kept himself busy in inaugurating Durga Puja pandals in Agartala city when Kadamtala was burning. He reminded me of emperor Nero,” Barman claimed.
