The West Tripura District Administration has withdrawn its previous direction imposing a ban on performing Durga Puja in Udichi club. The decision was taken after the members of the community club allegedly manhandled a woman centring a dispute over the annual Puja subscription. The matter took an ugly turn after the family members of the woman lodged a police complaint against the club authorities. However, the dispute was settled with the intervention of community elders and local leaders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and eventually the ban on Puja was revoked. Speaking to media persons, President of the community club Subir Debbarma said, “On 28 September, corporator Sukhamay Saha convened a meeting of club members and the victim's family. Through consultation, the misunderstandings between both the groups were settled and the administrative order on Puja ban was withdrawn. We thank all the people who have helped us in organising this year’s community Puja.”
