Drug peddlers arrested, brown Sugar worth Rs 8 lakh seized

A drug peddlers was arrested from Agartala City on Wednesday night. The police have seized Brown Sugar worth Rs 8 lakh from his possession, an official has said. The accused had been produced before the court with a prayer of police remand, SDPO Sadar Deba Prasad Roy informed media persons on Thursday. “The arrest was made during a routine patrolling at Barajala located in the suburbs of Agartala city,” Roy said. According to Roy, the police from West Agartala Police Station and Ramnagar Outpost jointly carried out the operation which led to seizure of 100 grams of brown sugar.

"Acting on a tip off, the police, in plain clothes, rushed to the Tripura Road Transportation Corporation (TRTC) office at Barjala. Upon arrival at the spot, we detained the suspect. After conducting a thorough search, we seized nine pouches of brown sugar weighing 100 grams. The market value of the seized contraband is estimated at around Rs 8 lakh," he pointed out. The accused is identified as Rajib Datta.
