TSR man arrested for killing wife, youth lynched to death

Two gruesome killings have occurred in the last 24 hours in two different locations of the state.The first incident occurred at Gajaria area in Bishalgarh, where a TSR trooper allegedly set his wife on fire, leading to her death in GB Pant hospital a day after.In a separate incident, a 20-year-old youth was lynched to death at AD Nagar’s Rajib Chowmuhani area located in the outskirts of Agartala city.According to Police, at around 10:30 pm on the night of Biswakarma Puja, TSR trooper Swapan Das, in the fit of rage, set fire on his wife. She suffered grave burn injuries.

Hearing the hue and cry, locals intervened for her rescue. She was immediately shifted to Bishalgarh hospital and subsequently taken to GB Pant hospital for advanced treatment where she breathed her last.“Before her death, she gave a statement to the police. She said that her husband, Swapan Das, intentionally killed her. A specific FIR is lodged against him, and the case is being properly investigated by our team,” a police officer associated with the case told media persons.

The prime accused in the case is arrested.Meanwhile, a 20-year-youth identified as Subhankar Saha was mercilessly thrashed by a group of irate people. The attacks left him grievously injured. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the different kinds of sharp and blunt weapons were used by the assailants to inflict injuries on the victim.He was rescued by the locals and shifted to Tripura Medical College. He was later referred to GB hospital’s trauma care center. Unfortunately, the youth died today.Police sources said, “An FIR was lodged with Amtali police station naming seven persons. One person has been detained in connection with the case.” The prime accused identified as Rupan, a driver by profession, is stated to be absconding.
