Tripura Central University (TCU) under the inept and incompetent stewardship of vice chancellor Ganga Prasad Prasein worsened by corrupt , cynical and callous teachers has become a source of suffering and woes for the student community of the state at the college level. This is reflected in the failure of 60% of students of 1st semester in colleges affiliated with the university. In order to protest this gross bungling of results, deliberate or otherwise, thousands of students from different colleges this morning launched a road blockade programme on the national highway in front of the university complex , paralyzing the traffic movement. Even though after a few hours the road blockade was withdrawn following persuasion from police authority hundreds of students stood in front of the university gate and kept on shouting slogans. Till latest reports came in the slogan shouting by students demanding fair assessment and promotion to the next semester was continuing.
Sources among students of Ramthakur college, one of the leading colleges of the state, said that around 60% of the students in the 1st semester of the college had got plucked and this included very good students ,many of whom had secured more than eighty percent marks in the higher secondary exams. “You will be surprised to know that the 1st semester exam had been held six months ago but the result was declared only yesterday” said a student. He said that there are students who have got plucked in four out of altogether five subjects. The students in most other colleges have the same experience but the worst-affected is the reputed Ramthakur college. However, one of plucked students said that marks were to be sent to university by the college authority but in many cases the college staff did not send up the marks and this might have impacted the final results. Only an inquiry at high level can unearth the truth.
Referring to other irregularities in the results students said that names of some of the students of Ranthakur college had been included in the list of students of Belonia college and this includes plucked student who had secured 90% marks in the higher secondary examination. What has worsened the situation is the callous and hostile attitude of the principal of the Ramthakur college who is unfazed by the result and is advising the students to secure fresh admission to 1st semester or to seek review of results by depositing Rs 600.00 each. “The lackadaisical attitude of the college and the university is creating an explosive situation ; while the staff of Ramthakur college may be partially responsible , it is doubtful whether the university teachers seriously examined and went through the answer-scripts; in case this situation continues a Calcutta-like agitational situation will surface and in such a case nobody will remain safe” said an agitated student leading the protest.
