A dispute between the two constituents of the ruling alliance, BJP, and TIPRA Motha, led to a day-long road blockade at the Belfung area in Khowai causing serious suffering for the people. The road blockade started at 7 am and was withdrawn at 7 pm after the district authorities assured to look into their grievances.

The TIPRA Motha supporters resorted to the road blockade movement alleging manipulation during the counting of votes for the Panchayat election on the previous day. They were alleging that the BJP supporters forced out the counting agents of TIPRA Motha from the counting hall and manipulated the votes.

On Tuesday morning the Motha supporters led by their MLA Ranjit Debbarma blocked the National Highway no 208 at Belfung area. They were demanding the recounting of votes. The road blockade caused serious dislocation in traffic movement on this busy road. Hundreds of vehicles got stranded. A large number of passengers including office goers who were proceeding towards Agartala, Khowai, Kamalpur, and Kailasahar through this road landed into total uncertainty.

The Sub-divisional Magistrate of Khowai rushed to the spot and tried to convince the agitators but all went in vain as the agitators were demanding the physical presence of the DM and SP.
