The Tripura unit of Indian Medical Association (IMA), apex body of medicos across the country, have raised a four point charter of demands in the interest of safety and security of doctors including trainee doctors and medical students . These demands have been raised in the context of the recent rape and murder of a female trainee doctor-an MD student- in Calcutta’s RG Kar medical college. The demands include : 1) Foolproof security in all public and private hospitals in view of the sensitivity of such places and growing lack of tolerance among people , 2) Installation of high-resolution and latest CC cameras in all medical colleges , public and private hospitals to monitor movement of people, 3) Installation of an office to constantly monitor CC cameras by professionally efficient and dedicated personnel and 4) Maintenance of firm law and order system where doctors, nurses, paramedical staff etc work in contact with the people and patients.

The statement issued in this regard by state IMA president Dr Sanjib Kumar Debbarma and Dr Basab Ghosh expressed satisfaction over the participation of medical students, doctors, nurses and paramedical staff in the countrywide agitation against the rape and murder of a female MD student in Calcutta’s RG Kar medical college.
