Library Day is observed to mark the birth anniversary of S R Ranganathan, father of Library Science in India

The state observed the Librarian Day of August 12 to mark the birth anniversary of Dr S R Ranganathan, considered the father of Library Science in India. A special program was organized in the Bir Chandra State Central Library. Dilip Kumar Das, Head Librarian of Bir Chandra State Central Library presided over the program attended by many dignitaries. Eminent writer Asish Kumar Baidya inaugurated the program. Similar Programs were organized in other libraries across the state.
The ‘Best Library Worker of the Year’ award was instituted this year. Two library workers were given the award this time. They are Bikash Sadhan Barua, a sorter at Kanchanpur Public Library, and Narottam Debbarma, a Group-D worker at Udaipur Najrul Library. They were given a certificate, a memento, some books, and a cash award.
A five-day Book Exhibition as part of Ajadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav has also been organised which will continue from August 12 to 16.
