The Tripura High Court has issued a notice to the state and central government expressing deep concern over the rise in AIDS and drug use among school and college students in the state. The state government's education and health department, the central government's health ministry and the National AIDS Control Society have been sued in this case before the High Court bench of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Arindam Lodh on Wednesday. The Tripura High Court has sent a notice asking how to prevent the spread of AIDS and addiction among males and female students and what measures have been taken so far. The National AIDS Control Society along with the central and state government agencies have to respond to the court notice within two weeks.

Reportedly, the Acting Chairman of the State Legal Services Authority, Justice T Amarnath Gaur, recently wrote a letter to Tripura High Court Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh about the increasing incidence of AIDS and drug addiction among school and college students in the state. On the basis of that letter, considering the importance of the matter, the Tripura High Court took up the case on its own initiative. On this day, government advocate Kohinoor Narayan Bhattacharya took notice of the case on behalf of the state government. Recently, many City based school students in the state have been infected with AIDS. Due to family respect, the name of the family's children is not disclosed, but the conscious citizens of the state are of the opinion that there is an increasing trend of injecting drugs using the same syringe among school-college students. The condition of tribal villages is worse than schools and colleges in the urban areas. Tripura police occasionally arrests drug dealers but cannot take effective action against the accused due to political reasons. Moreover, due to the massive deficiency and irregularity of the police's investigative work, in most cases, the accused are released even if they are caught with drugs. In several cases, it has been seen that the leaders of the ruling party are behind these drug deals. So today there has been free trade in drugs in the state for an age which is gradually increasing.
