The SDM, Gandacherra Chandroday Reang said that the local Bengalis from three or four villages whose houses had been gutted in violent attacks by another section of people are being provided basic relief in the make-shift camp like market-sheds where they have taken shelter. Chandroday Reang was speaking on mobile from his office in Gandacherra. He could not give the exact number of people rendered homeless by the ethnic trouble and selective attacks but said that around 250 people had been forced to take shelter in the make-shift camp. “Now there is adequate security in place and there is no possibility of any more attacks on any section of people ; we hope peace will return” said Chandroday. He added that basic relief like food items and medicines have been distributed among the affected homeless people and this will continue until they return home. However, Chandroday could not say whether the government is planning to grant any compensation package for the people affected by the ethnic violence.
