The ruling BJP government’s dithering tactics and lack of initiative to regularize the casual and irregular employees working for more than ten years is triggering grave resentment among such employees at the cost of administrative efficiency. This was evident again today as a large number of casual employees working for more than ten years in the health department held a protest demonstration in front of the departmental headquarter today to press their demand for regularization in service. Later they mete in deputation with the director of health and submitted a memorandum containing their demands. The health director is stated to have assured them that their case will be brought to the notice of the higher authority for consideration.

Sources among the casual employees said that they have working in the department for more than ten years and as per existing rules they qualify for regularization in service but the state government has not taken any initiative in this regard despite repeated appeals . They said that they had filed a case in the high court making a plea for regularization in service and in an order passed on May 13 the high court bench ruled that in case of non-regularisation the casual employees should be given equal pay for equal work . “ But this order is also being violated and we may have to move the high court again; it is strange that before coming to power this very ruling party had made a commitment that all irregular and contingent employees would be regularized in service; nothing is being done though the same party has been in power over the past six years” said a casual employee on condition of anonymity.
