The situation in Pekuacherra forest areas in Kanchanpur is gradually taking a worse turn as the administration failed to take any positive steps. The administration turned a blind eye to the illegal construction of a religious place by a section of unlawful occupants of the forest land. On the other hand, it issued notice to another group of people who took shelter in the forest land after losing their homestead to the illegal invaders.
The administration recently issued an eviction notice but the refugees resented it and started constructing a Sani Temple in the area. Seeing the red eye of the resenting people the administration refrained from taking any action. A police camp which was there for some time also has been withdrawn.
Meanwhile, the people from adjoining areas also started supporting the refugee families who took shelter in the forest land after losing their homesteads at villages like Ananda Bazar, Gachirampara, Taisama, Subhashnagar, etc. A group of locals also submitted a memorandum to the SDM, Panisagar.
Meanwhile, the Sanatani Bangali Sureksha Mancha came forward in support of the refugees. They in a statement appreciated the women force who demonstrated againstgovernment's move to demolish the refugee shelters.
