The still unresolved mystery behind the Vicky murder case and the fragile law and order situation in the Usha Bazar area north of Agartala have goaded residents of the area to take to streets. The secretary of the controversial ‘Bharat Ratna Sangha’ of Usha Bazar , Durga Prasanna Deb alilas Vicky had been shot dead in the evening of April 30 near Shal Bagan area but the real masterminds behind the murder continue to elude police dragnet both within and without the state. Till now the police have arrested seven persons including a young girl and her mother, Susmita and Uma Sarkar and effort is on to make Uma Sarkar an approver in the case.

But the police’s woes have not yet ended as the nabbed miscreants have not yet made any significant disclosure so far in the absence of third degree methods which the police do not seem to have applied. The main culprit Raju Banik who is believed to have plotted Vicky’s murder is still beyond the reach of police personnel amidst claims that they are active in Tripura as well as in West Bengal. Raju Banik’s younger brother was arrested from Royganj in West Bengal while the suspected shooter Akash Kar was picked up from near a ralway station in Jharkhand. But interrogation of the duo has not led to any major disclosure. Besides, the police investigating team is yet to recover the murder weapon or revolver used in the murder of Vicky on April 30 or the motor bike used by the shooter and his accomplices.

Miffed by the failure of police to make further progress in the investigation the people of Usha Bazar yesterday took out a silent procession in protest yesterday. The profession marched through the entire area and a number of participants expressed their reservations over the lackadaisical approach of police as well as the ‘breakdown’ of law and order situation in the entire Usha Bazar locality. The participants in the procession also blamed the airport police station and threatened to take law in their own hands unless the law and order situation is restored in the area. They blamed the negotiation mafia for CPWD works and a number of engineers and employees of CPWD for the mess created in the area demanded immediate restoration of normalcy.
