For the first time in the history of the state a five hundred forty yearold idol of ‘Sri Gouranga Mahaprabhu’ made of specially consecrated ‘Neem Wood’ is coming to Agartala for special worship and performing of religious rituals in the ‘Sri Bhubon Mohan Jiu Mandir’ at Bhattapukur area of Agartala near ‘Apanjan’ club tomorrow. On this occasion a special cultural programme will be held in the ‘Sri Bhubon Mohan Jiu Mandir’ under the care and stewardsip of Srimat Swami Prrem Gopal Goswami on the evening of May 16. On the following day , that is on May 16 another religious programme will come off in the same venue and ‘Mahaprasad’ will be distributed among devotees and common people.

It may be mentioned in this connection that the ancestors of ‘Sri Gouranga Mahaprabhu’ had been born in a part of Sylhet district in Bangladesh and it was there that an idol of ‘Mahaprabhu’ who had revived Hinduism from decline during Muslim rule had been made of consecrated ‘Neem’ wood in the year 1484. After partition of India in the year 1947 this idol which is actually an invaluable antique had been brought to Silchar from Sylhet to save it from vandalisation by Muslims. This 540 yearold idol which was once worshipped by Mahaprabhu’s grand mother Shobha Debi had been taken across the border to Sylhet in Bangladesh through Akhaura checkpost in Agartala for special worship on the occasion of ‘Akshay Tritiya’.

After ritual worship there the same idol has been brought back to Agartala and the religious programmes will be held tomorrow and day after tomorrow . After the programmes the Idol of ‘Mahaprabhu’ will be taken back to Silchar. The entire programme at Agartala is being organised by ‘Vaishnav’ devotee and principal of the ‘Sro Bhubon Mohan Jiu Mandir’ Srimat Homagni Chakraborty.
