The CPI (M) state secretary and central committee member Jiten Chowdhury sounded more confident of nature of vote today and possible outcome in East Tripura seat compared with what it was in West Tripura on April 19. Jiten cast his vote in booth no-8 of Sabroom assembly constituency and spoke to waiting media persons after coming out of the booth.

He said that according to feedback he had received voters had stood in long queues in front of most of the polling booths from early in the morning ,waiting to cast their votes by pressing EVM buttons. “This is a clear proof of democratic consciousness of the people and we are happy over it ; we have already received information that in certain areas like in Hrishyamukh, parts of Manu and in some other constituencies the polling agents of CPI (M) were either prevented from entering the booths or driven out ; some ministers and BJP leaders have also been moving around in many constituencies” said Jiten. He however said that the role of police and election authority today is better than what it was in West Tripura election on April 19.

“Whenever needed we have sought intervention of the election authority and police and in most of the cases they have also responded positively ; so we feel that today’s election overall will be better than the farce enacted by the ruling party on April 19” said Jiten. He however added that a situation of silent terror had been created on previous days and nights but the voters overcame these and turned up in large numbers to exercise their right to franchise.
