In an unseemly incident which marred tall claims of so-called peaceful polling process, a gang suspected miscreants owing allegiance to BJP severely beat up a woman polling agent of INDIA bloc as she had neared her home after doing duties in the booth no-27 under Pratapgarh assembly segment of West Tripura Loksabha constituency yesterday in the evening.

Binapani Singha , a leading activist of the ‘Mahila Congress’ had worked as polling agent of INDIA bloc candidate of West Tripura parliamentary constituency and PCC president Asish Saha in the polling booth no27 under Pratapgarh all through the day and did not leave her position despite threats , intimidation and abuses hurled at her by BJP worker. After dusk when polling had ended Binapani made her way back home in Jogendra Nagar area. As she neared home a gang of BJP miscreants lying in wait pounced on her and severely beat up her up. As a result her left hand got fractured and police personnel , after being informed by local people, shifted her to the casualty ward of GBP hospital . The leaders of Congress and former vice chairman of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Samar Chakraborty visited GBP hospital and spoke to Binapani Singha who only shed tears.

The assault on the woman activist of Congress has been condemned by Congress and CPI (M) and the leaders of both the parties urged the election commission to look into the matter and take appropriate action .
