For the first time in his adult life former chief minister and leader of the opposition Manik Sarkar cast his vote through EVM for the ‘Hand’ symbol of Congress in favour of West Tripura Loksabha candidate and PCC president Asish Kumar Saha. After coming out of the ‘Shishu Vihar’ school polling station in the morning Sarkar told waiting media persons that for the first time in his life as a voter he had pressed EVM buttons for the ‘Hand’ symbol as all though his life he had voted for the sickle and hammer symbol of the CPI (M). A tinge of odd feeling was unmistakable in his voice.

The chief minister Dr Manik Saha cast his vote in the polling station located in the Maharani Tulsivati Girls higher secondary school in the morning well in time as did the INDIA block candidate of Congress and PCC president Asish Kumar Saha. Senior Congress MLA and invitee member of the party’s central working committee Sudip Roybarman cast his vote in the polling station at Acharya Prafulla Chandra Vidyaniketan school near Heritate Park near GBP hospital. However, royal scion and ‘Tipra Motha’ supremo Pradyot Kishore had to cover a distance of 60 kms up and down by his personal vehicle to cast his vote in the Abhiram Mukumu school in Mandai assembly constituency where he is registered as voter. Pradyot spoke to his partymen after coming out of the polling booth and told them to ensure peace and tranquility in the area.

The West Tripura candidate of BJP and former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb cast his vote in the polling booth in Jamjuri area of Udaipur where he is registered as voter. Before that he had offered ‘Puja’ in the temple of ‘Maata Tripureswari’ to seek the blessings of the holy ‘Mother Goddess’.
