The union home minister Amit Shah is tentatively scheduled to visit Tripura as part of campaign for the upcoming Loksabha elections on April 10. Apart from addressing two rallies Shah is expected to hold a road-show at Agartala in favour two BJP candidates for the polls Biplab Kumar Deb and Kriti Singh Debbarma. According to sources in BJP the home minister’s campaign visit will be followed by the tour of prime minister Narendra Modi who is expected to address two campaign rallies in two different parts of the state in favour of party’s two candidates Biplab Kumar Deb and Kriti Singh Debbarman. Sources said that unless there is a last minute change in the campaign schedule both the union home minister and the prime minister will campaign in the state as per schedule tentatively announced.

Apart from this, a massive election rally was held today by the BJP in the 6-Agartala assembly constituency which forms part of the West Agartala Loksabha seat where former chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb is the BJP’s official candidate. The rally among other leaders was attended by party vice president Papiya Dutta who lost the last assembly election to Congress’s Sudip Roybarman. Biplab Kumar Deb who is campaigning in other parts of West Tripura Loksabha seat could not attend the hugely attended rally but a large number of workers were there. Besides, a few days ago Biplab had made unsavoury comments on the sitting MLA from 6-Agartala Sudip Roybarman after the latter had regretted the denial of renomination to former BJP MP and union minister of state Pratima Bhowmik.
