The ban imposed by the supreme court on all medicinal products of the famous ‘Patanjali’ company of Ram Deb, their sale and advertisements have put hundreds of businessmen across the state in trouble. In a landmark order passed on last Tuesday the division bench of the apex court comprising justices Hima Kohli and A. Amanullah categorically said that as per contents of the advertisement the products of ‘Patanjali’ limited can cure all ailments but there is ‘no empirical evidence or tested tested results’ to prove the efficacy of the medicines and products. The apex court bench also ordered launching of contempt proceedings against the managing director of the company Bal Krishnan for violation of an earlier order passed in November last year. The order passed on Tuesday last has also put a ban on display of all advertisements of the ‘Patanjali’ limited in print and electronics media.
Sources among all sellers of ‘Patanjali’ products here said that the apex court order has put them in deep trouble as they had obtained permission for sale of the products after depositing big amounts as security in advance. “We will now be in a tight position in selling the products purchased by us earlier; the court order is inviolable but the fact is that no adverse effect of products consumed by prople has so far been reported ; the matter should be reconsidered because a conspiracy against ‘Patanjali’ has been on over the past many years by pharmaceutical multinationals” said a dealer of Patanjali products. They said that as the first step they will approach the chief minister of the state Dr Manik Saha to apprise him of the actual dimension of the problem.
