Killer TSR constable Sukanta Das sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50 thousand for shooting dead seniors

The TSR rifleman Sukanta Das who had shot dead two of his seniors for not granting him due leave on December 4 2021 in the GCS point in Konaban area under Bishalgarh subdivision was sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50 thousand by the additional session judge Debasish Kar of Bishalgarh today. In default of the payment of Rs 50 thousand imposed as fine Sukanta Das will have to serve one more year of imprisonment.

Sources from Bishalgarh session court said that rifleman Sukanta Das had long been praying for his due leave but the Naike Subedar Marka Singh Jamatya and Naike Subedar Kiran Kumar Jamatya were sitting on his earnest petitions deliberately even though they had been granting leave to fellow tribal riflemen and others. Having lost patience over not getting his due leave rifleman Sukanta Das shot dead his two seniors on the spot for their partiality and unfair conduct and surrendered to Madhupur police station with his service rifle.

Within a short time the TSR commandant Ranga Dulal Debbarma filed a FIR under section 302 of IPC against rifleman Sukanta Das and the then officer in charge of Madhupur police station Tapas Das registered the case and started investigation , having put killer Sukanta Das under arrest. Sukanta was produced in court on December 5 and sent to jail custody on the basis of his confession to have committed the crime of twin murders. The inquiry officer in the case Shubhrajit Deb investigated the crime and filed a charge-sheet with 38 witnesses. After a fairly long trial the session judge Debasish Kar today sentenced Sukanta Das to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50 thousand in default of payment of which he will have to serve one more year’s imprisonment. The judge also made an observation that all arm-wielding TSR jawans should perform their responsibilities with utmost care and dedication. He also directed all the TSR officers to be sensitive to the needs and grievances of the jawans called riflemen and address them as quickly as possible.
