On paper, the number of doctors in Tripura is 1044, but only 600 doctors are deployed in hospitals

At present number of government doctors in Tripura is about 1044, but there are currently only 600 doctors working in different hospitals of the state including GB Hospital. The rest are working in two medical colleges and Primary Health Centres. But the number of hospitals and primary care centers in the state is more than nine hundred.

This image of the disgraceful state of the state's medical system under the BJP coalition rule emerged in the speech of the health director Dr Supriya Mallik. He said there are 1044 doctors on paper. But there are only 600 doctors working in various hospitals of the state including GB Hospital. A portion of the remaining doctors are on leave. There is a part in 'Study Leave'. This information was given by Health Director Dr. Supriya Mallik when he came to visit Belonia sub-district hospital last Tuesday. He also acknowledged the disruption of health services due to shortage of doctors. The health director also said that efforts are underway to recruit 226 new doctors.

Notably, the health care infrastructure in Tripura is divided into three tiers – the primary health care network, a secondary care system comprising district and sub-divisional hospitals and tertiary hospitals providing specialty and super specialty care. As on 9th June 2022 the position of Health Institutions is as

i. State Hospital: 06 (Allopathic:04, Homeopathic:01, Ayurvedic:01)

ii. District Hospital: 06 (Allopathic)

iii. Sub-divisional Hospital:14 (Allopathic)

iv. Community Health Centre (CHC):21 (Allopathic)

v. Primary Health Centre (PHC):118(Allopathic including 8 Urban PHC)

vi. Health Sub Centre (HSC):999(Allopathic)

vii. Ayurvedic Dispensary: 39 (Ayurvedic Dispensary-36, Satellite Dispensary-02 and Rajbhawan Ayurvedic Clinic- 01)

viii. Homeopathic Dispensary:73.
