The state police have sounded alert against cyber frauds involved in duping people pretending to be cops. A cyber alert shared by the cyber-crime unit of the state police revealed that a group of cyber conmen is now targeting people masquerading as police officials over the phone calls. According to the cyber security advisory issued by the police, the imposters call random people and tell them that Delhi police had registered an FIR against them under certain charges and any time their residence could be raided. If they could sense that the receiver of the call has some sort of weakness they keep calling them again and again to put pressure on them. Some fake names as investigating officer of Delhi police were also used. When the victim finally surrenders before them, the imposters ask for money to negate the criminal cases registered against them. Once the money is transferred none of the phone numbers go out of operation. The cyber cell of the state police had advised the people of the state to immediately contact emergency contact number of police (112/1930) or contact the local police station. Sources in the police department said that cyber frauds keep changing their methods of approaching their prey depending on the situation. Recently, a number of cases had been reported that are related to fake job calls. The job seekers who register with different portals received calls from the frauds pretending to be employers and swindled good amounts of money as service charge, training etc. without providing anything.
