Headmaster physically ill-treats female school teacher, no action from the high-ups in the education department

The sheer incompetence and fear of political authority have rendered the high-ups in the education department incapable of taking any action against even the worst offenders in the schools of the state. Nothing illustrates the point better than the physical ill-treatment meted out to the female computer teacher of the school Rajashri Debnath by the headmaster of Bishalgarh english medium school, Chandan Debnath who is accused of many actions of omission and commission by his colleagues, students and guardians of the school.

Sources from Bishalgarh said that how and why Chandan Debnath ill-treated Rajashri in his chamber is not known but the she informed her father of the incident and the matter was brought to the notice of the director of secondary education N.C.Sharma. The director referred the matter to the district education officer (DEO) of Sepahijala Malay Bhowmik for investigation and appropriate action . Within a short while DEO Malay Bhowmik deputed OSD Anthony Debbarma and inspector of school (Bishalgarh) Pradip Debbarma to look into the matter. They held a closed-door meeting with the headmaster Chandan Kumar Debnath for some time but did not take footage of the CCTV in the latter’s chamber. The OSD Anthony Debbama in conversation with media persons tried to defend him though the DEO (Sepahijala) Malay Bhowmik telephonically said that the allegation against Chandan Kumar Debnath about physical ill-treatment of computer teacher Rajashri Debnath was correct. But the department of secondary education is yet to initiate any disciplinary action against guilty headmaster Chandan Kumar Debnath only because he is said to be close to high-ups in the ruling BJP in Bishalgarh.

Sources said that for a long time allegations have been voiced by students and guardians about the misbehaviour and ill-treatment of headmaster Chandan Kumar Debnath . Besides, he is also reportedly involved in financial irregularities, specially in regard to midday meal programme in the school . There is no proper accounting or auditing of the rice supplied from food department and actual expenses incurred in executing the midday meal programme. But despite allegations the secondary education department prefer to look away for fear of Chandan Kumar Debnath’s political connections.
