New green house built in Nagicherra for better potato cultivation

The horticulture department, an appendage of the department of agriculture , has built a new green house in the agricultural research centre in Nagicherra area southeast of Agartala.The green house will help produce high quality seeds for higher production of potato seeds which will be handed over to farmers. This is part of the agriculture department’s endeavour for farmers welfare. Many years ago an agricultural scientist in Tripura K.D. Senchowdhury had invented True Potato Seed (TPS) with higher yield but now the department feels that much higher yield of potato is needed for consumption by increasing population and a new variety of high-yield potato seed needs to be developed. The deputy director of Horticulture department Rajiv Ghosh said that the research on devising high-yield new potato seed in the green house will bring about a major positive change in the potato production in the state.
