The ‘ADC day’ , observed on August 23 in Tripura, has come and gone, leaving a trail of unseemly developments in the form of embittered comments as well as a ‘sit-in’ in Delhi. The opposition ‘Tipra Motha’ supremo and Tripura’s royal scion Pradyot Kishore has lambasted the so-called ‘high-ups in power’ for turning the ADC into a ‘toothless tiger’ . He made the comment yesterday in a ‘Facebook’ post . Pradyot rued the fact that ‘planned systematic discrimination’ by people in high positions had rendered the ADC incapable of delivering service to the tribal people as the ADC is struggling even now for funds and resources which are not being made available to it. The day of August 23 is observed as ‘ADC day’ in Tripura as it was on this day that the then central government headed by Indira Gandhi as prime minister had amended the constitution to extend the provisions of 6th schedule to the Tripura ADC.

Apart from this, a large group of supporters of IPFT, partner in the state’s coalition government , staged a sit-in demonstration at Jantar Mantar area of Delhi to press for establishment of ‘Tipraland’ , a very old demand of the party. The young IPFT leader and MLA Shukla Charan Noatia who is also a minister took the initiative to mobilize party workers and supporters for the show of strength in Delhi. While addressing the gathering at Jantar Mantar Shukla Charan recalled the movement for Tipraland , first launched by the party under the leadership of late party president and minister Narendra Chandra Debbarma way back in 2009. He urged the central government to consider the demand to protect the interests of the people of Tripura.
