Spirituality may have a make-believe explanation for this but the science is loud and brutal in its prognosis. Two Ten year old twin babies Namita Das and Diya Das (10) can survive maximum up to the age of thirty five from the mortal disease they have been suffering from. The rarest of rare disease is a permanent lung disorder that has been medically defined as “Cystic fibrosis, a disease that causes thick, sticky mucus to build up in the lungs, digestive tract, and other areas of the body. It is one of the most common chronic lung diseases in children and young adults. It is a life-threatening disorder”.
But science or spirituality provide cold comfort to parents awaiting demise of their dear babies with daily agony of hearts.Dipak Das is a poor meat seller in the south Taranagar market under Mohanpur subdivision and it was with great happiness that he and his wife Ratna Das Debroy welcomed the twin daughters Namita and Diya five years ago. But little did they know what fate had kept in store for their daughters. Very soon Namita and Diya developed serious health problems with breathing problem and coughing. Very soon the daughters also contracted Covid and it was the minister from their area Ratan Lal Nath who played an angelic role by arranging to send them to Vellore for treatment as locally the disease was undiagnosed.
But the shattering blow was that both Namita and Diya were diagnosed as patients of rare Systic Fibrosis which requires constant oxygen support from cylinders and oxygen concentrators . Ratan Lal Nath arranged for these also and took them to GBP hospital for making free treatment available . As a result the two small girls can undergo treatment free of cost in the hospital and Nath has also arranged oxygen cylinders and concentrators for them besides giving them BPL card, ‘Ahyushman Bharat Yojana’ card and other benefits. In another humanitarian gesture today Ratan Lal handed over a cheque of Rs 51 thousand to the hapless parents after the amount had been sanctioned by the Mohanpur municipality. Now it is up to divine intervention to save the girls, but not beyond the age of 35 which is the deadline.
