The tendency to commit suicide by a section of paramilitary forces out of depression caused by cruelty and inhuman misbehaviour of commandants of battalion has been increasing fast . This is also present in the TSR battalions as evident from the suicide last night of an innocent jawan of 13th battalion TSR based in Kanchanpur. It was around 11-56 PM last night that rifleman Sarat Singh , a man form West Bengal, committed suicide by firing upon himself from his service weapon while on duty. His body will be sent to his home by air after due process of post-mortem.

Sources aware of the tragic incident squarely blamed the haughty and ill-behaved assistant commandant of the 13th battalion Rajesh Bardhan who always ill-treats the jawans and drags his feet deliberately over granting even due leave to the over-pressed jawans. He has been running the battalion at his own sweet will , perpetrating cruelties on the jawans. Sources said that the self-killed jawan Sarat Singh had been applying for due leave for a long time but was being consistently refused by Rajesh Bardhan on one pretext or another. Finally out of sheer helplessness Sarat Singh took his own life last night .

But the higher police authority who control the TSR battalions never take any action against errant commandants or assistant commandants even when there are genuine charges of cruelties and ill-treatment against them. Earlier also a number of TSR jawans committed suicide but the high-handed and essentially cynical higher police authority have never taken any action against the guilty and errant officers of the ranks of commandants and assistant commandants who , like Rajesh Bardhan, boast around that if they feel the jawans can have them transferred. But nothing happens.
