The much-awaited budget session of state assembly is tentatively scheduled to commence from July 7 though it has not yet been decided how long the session will last . The duration of the session will be decided upon by the business advisory committee (BAC) members. This was disclosed yesterday by the speaker of the assembly Bishwabandhu Sen who said that initially it has already been decided to begin the session on July 7.

Apart from this, the chief whip of the ruling BJP Kalyani Roy said that at present the monthlong programmes of celebration of nine years of the Modi government is on and all party leaders including MLAs and ministers are preoccupied by this and this is the reason why the budget session will commence from July 7. The nine year celebration programme will come to an end on June 30. Kakyani said that the governor is yet to formally convene the assembly and no notification has been issued but the date has already been tentatively fixed for July 7 . She said that a formal proposal will be sent to the governor soon.

This year all the parties were busy with the assembly election and there was no scope for convening the assembly except for a brief period of three days in March this year . In that session a vote-on-account and a supplementary budget were passed and a full-fledged budget for the financial year 2023-2024 could not be placed . Besides, for the first time the assembly authority will organise a training session for the newly elected members about the rules of procedure and conduct of business of the assembly as this time a number of MLAs have been elected for the first time. The speaker also said that an initiative has been taken to conduct the business of the assembly in a paperless manner from this time.
