The election process in Tripura ended on March 2 with the counting of ballots and declaration of results and this was followed by swearing in of 9-member council of ministers on March 8 and oath taking of new MLAs on March 16 and 17. But the post-poll violence shows no sign of abating as proved by various incidents of looting, extortion, arsoning and assaults on opposition party supporters in different parts of Mazlishpur assembly constituency.
According to reports made available by local sources a major incident of arsoning took place in Barjala area under Jirania subdivision on Wednesday . The poultry farm in the house of a minority lady Sakina Begum had been set afire and gutted to ashes by a gang of suspected BJP miscreants. To worsen the matters, the miscreants had filed a false case with police against the hapless woman. On Thursday night another gang of suspected BJP miscreants invaded the house of CPI (M) worker Nirmal Das in Sachindra Nagar colony and plundered the entire house . A TV set fitted on the wall, gold ornaments weighing twenty grams , unspecified amount of cash and other valuables were looted by the miscreants. The inmates of the house saved their lives by running away. In an earlier incident the residence of another CPI (M) worker Sushil Das had been looted by the BJP miscreants. In no case have the police intervened to initiate action.
