The eight member Congress-CPI (M) parliamentary team and local leaders of both the parties have abandoned their programme of visiting violence marred areas in different parts of the state and leaving the state today. Speaking to media persons in Hotel Sonartari this morning the leaders of the parliamentary team that included CPI (M) RS MP Elram Karim, Congress LS MP Abdul Khaleqe, Ranjita Yadav of Madhya Pradesh, CPI (M) state secretary Jiten Chowdhury , CPI (M) RS MP Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharjee, PCC president Birajit Sinha, newly elected Congress MLA Gopal Roy and AICC general secretary Dr Ajay Kumar said that the terror situation witnessed in Tripura is unprecedented. “Elections come and elections go in many state but nothing like this has happened anywhere ; this unbridled terror attacks on common people and deliberate inaction on the part of police have never been witnessed” said the leaders of the team. Ms Ranjita Yadav, wife of MP Pappu Yadav, said ‘we are leaving the people of Tripura to the grace of God because there is nobody to protect them’. She also said that parliamentary teams visit many places to take information about ground realities but such things have never happened earlier.

The members of the team also met the governor in the Raj Bhawan this morning and handed over a memorandum containing their experience of visit to the state and demanding action. “We will also meet the president Draupadi Murmu and apprise her of the situation and the issue of violence in Tripura will also be raised in parliament” said Bikash Bhattacharjee and Elaram Karim. They expressed their astonishment over the inert role of police , saying no police protection is required when they visit other states but here the members of the team are targets of attack.

Senior advocate Bikash Bhattacharjee said that even the media here is scared and commented that the media were not asking them questions out of fear . “We have heard that the media here is in tight leash and never ask questions and today we are experiencing this” said Bikash. All the members of the team briefly addressed the media giving an idea of what they experienced yesterday.
