Eminent journalist and former Editor of ‘The Indian Express’ Shekhar Gupta had once paid tribute to Narendra Modi as being a ‘very sharp man’ with immense capability of understanding and analyzing a situation very correctly and quickly. The prime minister has proved this on umpteen number of occasions but today was an altogether different occasion when Modi proved his mettle.

While delivering his long-awaited speech on the motion of thanks to the president for her address to the parliament , Modi was at his best in fluent articulation , bantering the opposition, taking dig at Rahul Gandhi and the secular ecosystem and reeling off data on achievements of his government. But towards the fag end of his speech the prime minister deviated from the usual topic and highlighted how BJP government here had implemented the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme giving housing benefits to the poor at government cost.

“Before the assembly polls in 2018 I had asserted that Tripura needed Highway Internet Railway and Airports (HIRA) for infrastructural development and I can say that this has been achieved to a great extent but everything will be done for Tripura” said Modi. Quite obviously, the prime minister had the upcoming assembly election in Tripura on February 16 uppermost in his mind before his scheduled visits to the state on February 11 and 13.
