NC Debbarma, Bikram Bahadur Jamatia awarded Padmasree, Chief Minister Congratulates

Former Revenue Minister Narendra Chandra Debbarma and former Akra of Jamatia Hoda Bikram Bahadur Jamatia have been named for Padmasree Award. A release issued by the President’s House on the eve of Republic Day said. The announcement evoked a positive response across the state as Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha congratulated the union government for selecting their names.

Narendra Chandra Debbarma popularly known as NC played a vital role in the social and political life of Tripura for several decades. He became a minister after the BJP-IPFT government came into power in 2018. A prominent writer and intellectual NC Debbarma proved his worth as a minister also as many senior officials admitted that there are many things to be learned from him. In his professional life, he served in All India Radio and discharged the duties of station director in Agartala for a long time.

Bikram Bahadur Jamatia started his carrier as an employee of the state secretariat and after retirement devoted his life fully to social activities. He came into prominence after becoming the Akra of the Jamatia Hoda at a time when the community was facing a serious crisis and many of its members were facing the threat of conversion. He stood against this threat and saved society from degeneration.
