In a big boost to research work in Tripura a costly Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) Spectrometer machine purchased at a price of Rs 13 lakhs from the German Bruker company has been installed in the BBMC college laboratory to facilitate a research project titled ‘Synthesis of mixed ligand complexes and its characterisation’ by Dr Arijit Das, assistant professor , chemistry. Sources in education department said that the machine installed on Jan 10 was part of the sponsored project of the science and engineering research board (SERB) under the department of science and technology (DST), Govt. of India. The machine will help in the identification of functional group in newly synthesized complexes as part of a way of ligand-metal bonding. This is first such machine installed in laboratories of 26 government general degree colleges of Tripura and will greatly boost up research work.

Speaking on the issue Dr. Arijit Das said that he had received the project from the SERB under DST, Govt. of India on March 16, 2022 and it is supposed to be completed within a period of three years-that is, by March 16 2025. Dr. Das said that one paper on the project has already been completed and published in the journal of Elsevier and another has communicated.

Dr. Arijit Das has expressed his gratitude to the principal of BBMC college, Dr Ratan Deb, the minister for higher education Ratan Lal Nath, director of higher education N.C.Sharma and secretary higher education, Saradindu Choudhury. He expressed the hope that the newly installed sophisticated machine will greatly boost and give a new dimension to scientific research in Tripura.
