AMC hike workers wages before Durga Puja

Just a few days before the Durga Puja festival and fulfilling the long pending demands of hundreds of casual and contractual workers of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), the present corporation on Tuesday hiked their wages.

Mayor Dipak Majumder accompanied by deputy mayor Manika Das Dutta and commissioner of AMC, Dr Shailesh Yadav said that altogether 2,163 causal and contractual workers engaged different works of AMC including cleaning and other works related to beautification works has been hiked.

He said that since formation of the preset corporation, the council of AMC are planning to increase their wages and finally like state government employees, the AMC has also decided to hike the wages for its workers.

As per the decision of the AMC, now all casual workers will get Rs. 300 per day with hike of Rs.52 and 417 women door to door garbage collectors will get a hike of Rs. 500 per month as incentive, said Mayor and added that a total of 39 contractual employees of the corporation will get a hike of Rs. 3000 per month with their salaries. Majumder said that AMC will utilize the additional expense of Rs 4.29 crore per year from its own revenue.

While, Mayor said that AMC along with massive cleaning and decoration drives before the festivities of Durga Puja and has taken different pro-people measures for smooth and illuminated celebration of the festivities.

Giving details of the pre-puja preparations AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder said that for garbage cleaning along with maintenance of other basic amenities across Agartala during festival time, AMC has started massive cleaning works across the city and many prominent roads of the city has been illuminated with tricolor lights and light posts of the city will have also street lights.

Highlighting the measures taken by Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) for beatification, cleanliness and improvement of other civic amenities during Puja days, Mayor Dipak Majumder said that a package of Rs. 5 crore has been utilizing for beatification and six important roads of the city has been illuminated with tricolors. Majumder said that AMC has earlier sanctioned Rs. 6 lakh for each 51 wards of AMC for pre-puja maintenance works and now increased a fund of Rs. 4 lakh for each wards.

The Mayor urged the capital city residents to maintain the cleanliness of the city and to cooperate with AMC. He also requested the people of the city to litter garbage in their respective places or in bins to maintain the hygienic environment of the city.
