Massive procession and rally in Sonamura, Jiten and other party leaders call for change

It was a sea of humanity , so big that it seemed as though the people of the entire subdivision had converged on the small Sonamura town , a quiet semi-urban centre nestled on the edge of the border with Bangladesh. From late morning yesterday people, almost all CPI (M) supporters and workers, had started pouring into the small town and by afternoon it was virtually a sea of humanity. A huge procession, biggest since March 2018, meandered its way through the town with slogans before converging on the town ground .

It was in the meeting that the CPI (M) state secretary Jiten Chowdhury gave a stirring call for change of regime.”This anti-people BJP-IPFT government has outlived their utility and it is time we democratically threw this government out of power to save Tripura and its people” said Jiten. He called upon the gathering of people to unite in a resolve to ensure a regime change. “This government has simply duped people with hollow promises but has not honoured a single one of them ; they have democratic foundations of Tripura and we must spare no pains to restore democracy and the rights of people” said Jiten. He listed out the perfidious activities and corruption of this government and said that it needed to be unseated to secure lives and livelihoods of future generations. He expressed happiness that people of the state are waking up to the reality of the BJP-IPFT’s misgovernance. “The BJP and IPFT have converted their slogan of ‘El Tripura, Shreshtha Tripura into ‘Chhappa’ Tripura” said Jiten in his stirring speech which greatly enthused the people.

Yesterday’s huge rally in Sonamura was presided over by CPI (M) state committee member Shamsul Haq. The meeting was addressed by the Sonamura subdivisional committee secretary Ratan Saha, MLA Shyamal Chakraborty, MLA Shahid Chowdhury, and Subal Rudra. Another senior leader Suresh Das was also present in the meeting .
