Soon Tripura have a Dental College, Bru resettlement to be speed up

Soon after arriving from New Delhi after meetings with the Union Home Minister and Health Minister, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday said that soon Tripura will get a Dental College.

Giving details with his meetings with Home Minister Amit Shah and Health Minister Mansukh Mandviya in New Delhi on Tuesday, Dr Saha after inaugurating the first conference of Tripura Newspapers Society here at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan on Wednesday said that the purpose of his meeting with union health minister to discuss issues related to improvisation of existing and setting up of new health infrastructures in the state, specially a Dental College. Dr Saha said that soon Tripura will get its first Dental College.

Sources said that the proposed Dental College will be set up in the new multi-storey building at IGM Hospital in Agartala and the Health department are now preparing the 4th, 5th and 6th floors of the building for a new Dental college.

While sharing details over the resettlement of Brus in Tripura, the Chief Minister said that during his meeting Amit Shah state government has informed all the latest updates for Bru resettlement in 13 designated spots across the state. The government has also urged the MHA to extend the time for settlement of Bru migrants in the state. The extension of the time frame will enable them to resettle in 13 locations across the state. The time for settlement of the Bru refugees from Mizoram in Tripura had expired on August 30 last.

Dr Saha said that the resettlement of Bru migrants was not possible in a fixed time due to many reasons including some families were not properly informed and many of them are in other parts of the state due to their treatments.

He said that the government is working to settle all the Bru families in a decent manner under the quadrilateral agreement.

It may be recalled here that around 8000 Bru families who were displaced from Mizoram's Mamit district in the wake of an ethnic flare up in 1997 are expected to be settled in Tripura under an agreement signed in January 2020.

As per the agreement among Tripura, Mizoram, Central governments and Bru organizations, all Bru families will be rehabilitated in 13 designated spots across the state and the entire rehabilitation process should be completed till August 31st, 2022, but was not completed in the fixed time. The state government has selected 13 locations, where 6,959 families of Bru migrants with a population of 37,136 will be resettled in the specified locations in different districts of the state.
