Police extend gratitude to voters for peaceful voting

After completion of by-polls for four assembly constituencies, which has been by and large peaceful barring some stray incident of violence, terrorizing the voters and obstruction, the state police on Friday through statement extend their thanks to the electorates of all four assembly seats.

Tripura police in their statement said that voters of 6-Agartala, 8-Town Bardowali, 46-Surma and 57-Jubarajnagar constituencies assisted the police in maintaining law and order. Barring some instances of reported intimidation to the voters at a few places under 6-Agartala and 8-Town Bardowali constituencies and a stabbing incident etc, the voting was peaceful, said police.

Police added that long queues were noticed in all the 221 polling stations where elections took place and the casting of votes was also quite high.

While, the Election Commission of India (ECI) and Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office in Agartala said after the end of voting process , on an average all four assembly constituencies have recorded 78.58 voting percentage.

Police added that as per the official figure of the ECI, the percentage of votes polled under 6-Agartala assembly constituency is 77.35 % in all 55 polling booths and 8-Town Bardowali assembly seat recorded 71.13 % of voting. The polling percentage of 57-Jubarajnagar seats recorded highest 83.12 % till 5 PM and the 46-Surma recorded poll percentage of 83.11 % till the end of voting.

Police also said that total 16 persons have been arrested in Agartala under preventive sections for involvement in attempted electoral offences and a specific case has been for stabbing a police constable by four miscreants, when he was going from his house to exercise his franchise near Kunjaban colony area under 6-Agartala seat. Police said that stern action will be taken against all miscreants after identification. However, no complaint has been lodged by the Presiding Officer or Returning Officer so far. A few instances of atrocities by political rowdies upon aged persons including media people have been noticed in social media, but no complaint has been received by police in this regard from anyone for taking specific investigation. No report of violence or intimidation has been received after the election so far and police patrolling and mobiles are continuing for maintenance of peace and tranquility in the state, said police.
